Uddingston Hockey Club in conjunction with South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture held a primary school festival on Thursday 29th March at Holy Cross High School to celebrate the conclusion of its first block of in-school coaching.

The festival will saw around 200 pupils from 5 primary schools taking part in fun festival matches between 9:30 - 11:30 and 12:30 - 2:30 with the schools including Muiredge PS, St Paul's PS, Aitkenhead PS, St Bride's PS and St John's PS.

The festival will saw the conclusion of phase 1 of the in-school coaching programme, which has involved coaches from Uddingston Hockey Club going into local Primary and Secondary schools to carry out taster sessions with an after school club then being started in each school.

In the first phase of the programme from January till April we had 6 primary and 2 secondary schools taking part including Bothwell, Muiredge, St John's, St Paul's, St Bride's and Aitkenhead Primary schools and Holy Cross High and Uddingston Grammar Schools.

Each school has had taster hockey sessions covering either primary 4 - 7 or Secondary years 1 - 4, which has resulted in after school clubs  being started in each school with each club averaging around 20 players.Phase 2 which will run between April and June will see us increasing school numbers to 10 primary schools  and 3 secondary schools. 

It is also planned to continue with phase 3 August to Oct and phase 4 October to December. The coaching programme has only been able to happen due to the fundraising efforts of the hockey club members plus the support of Awards for All, Communities 2014 and Sports Match with the club also currently aiming to secure support to continue and expand the programme throughout 2013 onwards.
