McWhinney Uddingston Training Weekends

McWhinney Uddingston Hockey Club held a double training session over the weekend as they
prepare to get back into action following the winter break.

The first team travelled to Forthbank Stadium in Stirling for a two-day high level training camp with
coach Steven Percy.

First team captain Nairn Scobie hopes this will help the team fit the ground running after the break
for indoor hockey over the winter period as they head back into Scottish National League 2 action
when they play hosts to Edinburgh rivals Waverley at Holy Cross High School, Hamilton, on Saturday.

Meanwhile Uddingston took a group of 16 promising youth players for a residential weekend
training camp at the Inverclyde National Sports Centre in Largs.

The camp, run in conjunction with South Lanarkshire Leisure and Hamilton Sports Council, gave the
youngsters the opportunity to receive high level coaching covering all aspects of the indoor and
outdoor game, including individual skills and team play, from Scotland hockey coaches Scott Taylor
and Paul Lochrin.

The players grasped the opportunity with both hands pleasing the Uddingston youth coaches - Ross
McWilliams, Ross Paterson and Jacqui McDove - who attended. Beth Coghlan and Shaun Murray
were voted the most promising players of the weekend. While the youngest player attending
Stephen Mackenzie also sharpened up on his shooting skills managing to score a goal in all three of
the games played over the weekend.

Ross McWilliams said: “The players were able to experience high level intense coaching to help
develop their hockey skills and help raise them to a higher level of play. We have a very talented
group of youngsters at the club and this kind of weekend will give them valuable experience as they
continue develop and in the coming years move up the ladder in our various senior teams at the
club.”
