Uddingston Youth Player gets Scotland Call up

Alan started showing an interest in hockey when he attended the local gala day when he was 6 years old where Uddingston Hockey Club had a stand. He then attended the junior training sessions on a Thursday night at the Hamilton Palace Sports ground with Richard Cuthbert being the main coach. After showing some potential he attended the U10/U12 tournaments with the Club and continued to improve with each game.

At the age of 11 he was asked to play with the Uddingston Gents 4

th XI. Alan started the senior training with the Uddingston 1st

XI at twelve years old, he continually progressed under the coaching of Steven Percy and Nairn Scobie which helped his interest and desire to stay playing hockey as his skills improved..

Alan was eventually put forward to the West District Selection in March 2012, and was successful in being chosen as part of the team to play in the inter district tournament several weeks later. It was playing in this tournament that he caught the eye of a Scotland U16 coach, and he then received an email in June 2012 inviting him to attend the Squad. Alan is now looking forward to the forthcoming year after being selected to become part of the U16 Scotland squad.
