Uddingston Hockey Goalkeeping Coach Announced

Uddingston Hockey Goalkeeping Coach Announced

Uddingston Hockey Club are delighted to announce Rory Kerr as their new Goalkeeping coach for the coming season with him also providing competition for the goalkeeping positions across our gent’s performance squads.

Over the past 6 years Rory has played hockey in a number of countries and leagues. In Scotland he played for Hillhead, and Western Wildcats, before a successful spell with Kelburne H C, winning a domestic treble and playing in the EHL on two occasions. Rory has also played in England, with Canterbury both outdoor and indoor, coming 2nd at the prestigious Supersixes tournament, most recently Rory played for Richmond H C.

Hockey has also taken Rory overseas to play in Australia for Suburban Lions in Perth for two seasons gaining promotion and picking up keeper of the season for the league. Most recently Rory returned to the Southern Hemisphere, playing in Auckland, New Zealand with Somerville Hockey Club. Rory said, ‘I’ve been fortunate to play under some incredible coaches and with some world class players on my journey and I’m looking forward to working with Harry, Steven and the guys at Uddingston’.

The club committee and Director of Hockey, Harry Dunlop feel strongly that the area of goalkeeping within hockey was particularly specialist and in turn required its own coach who can work in conjunction with other coaches to improve and develop this position within the team therefore we are particularly delighted to have Rory joining our coaching team as his experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for the game in undoubted.

Rory will work across various areas of the club by running Senior and Junior Goalkeeping Academies while also attending youth coaching to run goalkeeping taster sessions with the view of developing a pipeline of future keepers from our youth system who would then progress up via our youth performance squads and into our senior squads.

Director of Hockey Harry Dunlop commented “I am delighted to welcome Rory to the club. Having a keeper with such extensive experience will be a tremendous asset to both our playing squad and perhaps more importantly in developing our current and future goal keepers. The club are committed to developing young players through qualified and experienced coaches and this is the next appointment on the journey to building an environment where young players can flourish”

Vice President David Goodfellow commented “This appointment is yet another great addition to both our coaching and playing teams and will hopefully develop not only our existing keepers while also unearthing future keepers via our youth programmes”.

Rory goes straight into our ongoing senior coaching programme and will attend youth coaching that is now up and running again 6pm to 8pm on a Tuesday and a Wednesday with newcomers welcome and no need to book.
