Primary 7 Inter-School Hockey Festival - This Thursday !!!

This Thursday 21st February we will see 8 local schools taking part in a P7 hockey festival being held at Uddingston Cricket & Sports Club and run as part of Palazzo Kitchens & Bathrooms Uddingston Hockey Clubs in-school community hockey programme.

In total just under 400 primary 7 pupils who have received hockey via in-school taster sessions over the last few weeks will play in either a morning (9.30am to 11.30am) or afternoon (12.30pm to 2.30pm) session with Westcoats, St Mary’s, Aitkenhead and Fernhill Primary schools being involved in the morning session and St John’s, Tannochside, Bothwell and Muiredge Primary schools being involved in the afternoon session.

Each schools primary 7 classes will be transported from to and from the hockey club by our transport partner McDades Coaches, Uddingston who have also provided transport during the in-school programme to allow schools to have their taster sessions on the hockey pitch at the club instead of the schools own facilities.

The festivals themselves will see each class being split into teams and play as many fun games over a two hour period to not only allow the children to enjoy games of hockey but also to let the children enjoy the clubs world class hockey facility.

All family members are very welcome to come along and watch with our coffee kiosk and clubhouse being open throughout.

The in-school taster sessions and inter-school festival then allows all pupils to progress onto our club sessions that run each Tuesday and Wednesday night on our pitch (G71 7HJ) from 7pm to 8pm with no need to join the club to come along and open to all boys and girls aged 4 to 16 with all equipment provided.

We would also particularly like to thanks our community programme partners Palazzo Kitchens and Bathrooms, McDades Coaches and Douglas Park BMW who without their support we just wouldn’t be able to give so many pupils the chance to try hockey.

Our next planned festival will be on the 21st March following the same format and with the same schools involved but this time it will be for primary 6 pupils.

Next Phase of Respect Campaign - Umpire Development Plan Launched

Following the launch of our Respect Campaign (All About Respect) at the start of this season the club is now moving onto the next phase by introducing our Umpire Development Plan.

Generally the club are delighted how our membership has accepted and embraced our Respect Campaign and we have witnessed across all teams a general reduction in dissent and behaviour issues, which was the key aim and is extremely pleasing to see and have reported back to us by various external parties.

However as a club we also felt we had to improve our members understanding of the games rules while also looking to increase the number of umpires across the club at all levels.

Therefore today the club are launching their Umpire Development plan that will kick off with our Ladies and Gents 1st team squads attending two “introduction to umpiring” nights on the 5th and 19th March that will be the first step in all 1st team players working towards their level one umpire badge.

Following this our aim will be to put all senior teams and junior development players through the introduction to hockey course to enhance their understanding of the rules prior to then mentoring a large amount of these players towards their level one badge and beyond.
