St Patrick's Night Fundraiser Success

Uddingston Hockey Club recently held an excellent fun, family night and raised a total of just over £3,000 for club funds.

A huge thank to everyone who donated prizes, bid in the auctions, and supported the night. The night was a great success thanks to a fundraising committee consisting of players and parents from the ladies section.

Well done to all the winners of the raffle, the tombola and the bingo.

BirseTravel from Bothwell donated a Travel voucher for £100, which was made up to £200 by Cherie Fisher & Karen Wardlaw. Seats were sold on "Uddy Air" aeroplanes, and the winner drawn on the night was Martin Clark, a longstanding member of the hockey club.

An auction was also held for some excellent prizes. These were:- a signed Celtic strip donated by Yvonne Cannon; a signed Motherwell strip donated by Liz Blair; a Diamondbrite paint and fabric protection kit donated by Park’s Motor Group courtesy of Tom White; a 4-ball golf round donated by Colville Park Golf Club courtesy of Dawn Anderson; and a week's holiday in a static caravan donated by Liz Blair. These very generous donations allowed us to amount a total of £810 by auction.

The catering also deserves a mention as the Irish Stew & potatoes served courtesy of Mark Bryson was a huge success with many remarks made on how delicious it was.

Uddingston Grammar Hockey Academy Secures Sponsor

Uddingston Grammar Hockey Academy which is run in partnership with Uddingston Hockey Club is delighted to announce Deans Civil Engineering as their new sponsor on a three-year deal.

The academy which was started in August 2017 allowed all incoming P7 pupils to Uddingston Grammar to apply to join the academy and take one of the 10 spaces available each year.

The pupils receive 8 hours of dedicated coaching at the club hockey pitch from our lead performance coaches. The aim of the academy is to fast-track their development and to enhance the coaching they already receive at club level.

In the first year there has been an exponential improvement from all players involved as the additional hours and usage of the pitch at Uddingston has allowed the players to flourish both on and off the pitch.

The sponsorship from local business and long-term supporter of the club, Deans Civil Engineering, has enabled the club to provide all the players with specific Academy training kit. In turn, it has allowed the club to enhance the quality of coaches and equipment across the academy whilst also allowing us to consider starting further academies at other local secondary schools.

Steven Deans Managing Director of Deans Civil Engineering commented “We are delighted to lend our support to such a fantastic programme. In aligning the expert coaching and world class facilities with the commitment and dedication of Mr McKay at Uddingston Grammar School, there is undoubtedly a huge opportunity for those pupils within the Academy to excel and progress to an elite athlete status within the sport”.

John McKay Head teacher of Uddingston Grammar School commented “We at Uddingston Grammar School are delighted to be in partnership with Uddingston Hockey Club, one of Scotland’s premier clubs, in this exciting, innovative and sector

leading development. Our current Hockey Academy young people have received coaching of an exceptional quality from the dedicated team at Uddingston Hockey Club, and their improvement in skills and gameplay is clearly evident. Their involvement in the Academy has also paid dividends in school, and we are seeing them blossom into fine examples of modern young people. We are delighted to partner with Steven Deans, Managing Director of Deans Civil Engineering, and a long-term supporter of the Hockey Club, in ensuring that the Hockey Academy continues to grow and flourish, and together we hope to see our young people become permanent fixtures in the 1st Hockey teams as well as future Internationalists”.

Mick Evans Director of Hockey at Uddingston Hockey Club commented “As this has been the first year of Uddingston Academy we have been developing the program’s key areas which are Skill acquisition, Game sense, Fitness and Diet. Training twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday gives the pupils a more balanced programme. Tuesday morning is fitness and speed work, then we move onto skill acquisition. After school is about fun games and Thursday more about Game sense.

We have a diverse group of athletes, S1 and S2 boys and girls with various levels of skills, from athletes that have been playing for a long time to athletes that haven’t played at all. I feel that every athlete has improved over the past 5 months and I’m looking forward to the next 5 months to see what they can achieve”.

Now that the academy is fully established and half way through its first year we are turning our attention to the intake for the school year 2018/19 that will see another 10 first year pupils being selected to attend the academy plus second year pupils having the opportunity to join to top the group up to 10.

Any current P7 or Uddingston Grammar S1 pupils who may be interested in applying to join the Academy should attend our information evening with parents or guardians that will be held on Sunday 18th March 6pm at Uddingston Hockey Club or contact the club as below. An application deadline will then be set with trials then taking place to allow the selection process and offers to be made.
