Uddingston Youth Player gets Scotland Call up

Alan started showing an interest in hockey when he attended the local gala day when he was 6 years old where Uddingston Hockey Club had a stand. He then attended the junior training sessions on a Thursday night at the Hamilton Palace Sports ground with Richard Cuthbert being the main coach. After showing some potential he attended the U10/U12 tournaments with the Club and continued to improve with each game.

At the age of 11 he was asked to play with the Uddingston Gents 4

th XI. Alan started the senior training with the Uddingston 1st

XI at twelve years old, he continually progressed under the coaching of Steven Percy and Nairn Scobie which helped his interest and desire to stay playing hockey as his skills improved..

Alan was eventually put forward to the West District Selection in March 2012, and was successful in being chosen as part of the team to play in the inter district tournament several weeks later. It was playing in this tournament that he caught the eye of a Scotland U16 coach, and he then received an email in June 2012 inviting him to attend the Squad. Alan is now looking forward to the forthcoming year after being selected to become part of the U16 Scotland squad.

Youth Festivals

The youth section will be attempting to field teams at U10, U12 and U14 level in the Scottish Hockey Youth Festivals on Sunday mornings at Titwood. These festivals are short games aimed to promote skill and individual progression of players skills while participating in a team game. The club will supply coaches for these festivals and we will meet at the clubhouse, but we will require assistance with transport from parents to get the children to games. Parents can watch the game pitch-side or relax in the surroundings of Clydesdale Hockey club where tea coffee and filled rolls can be bought.

Summer Camp 2012

Uddingston Hockey Club successfully hosted two weeks of hockey camps between the 30th July and the 10th of August.  The weather eventually made up its mind and stayed sunny and warm to allow the camp to take place outdoors an be more enjoyable for all.  The numbers that attended were great, with a nice mix of new and old faces, allowing new friendships to be visibly made.

The kids showed vast development at all levels, with the younger ones quickly moving on from basics to more advanced skills, and the older ones moving from skills training to more tactical drills, aiming to prepare them for fast approaching senior level hockey.

The large number of new faces attending from surrounding primary schools highlighted the success of the the recent in school coaching programmes!  What was even more encouraging was the children asking about the club's weekly youth training and where to purchase sticks!

We look forward to seeing all the faces again at our final Saturday morning youth session and at our first midweek youth training session beginning at 6.30pm, 30th August.
