McWhinney Uddingston Training Weekends

McWhinney Uddingston Hockey Club held a double training session over the weekend as they
prepare to get back into action following the winter break.

The first team travelled to Forthbank Stadium in Stirling for a two-day high level training camp with
coach Steven Percy.

First team captain Nairn Scobie hopes this will help the team fit the ground running after the break
for indoor hockey over the winter period as they head back into Scottish National League 2 action
when they play hosts to Edinburgh rivals Waverley at Holy Cross High School, Hamilton, on Saturday.

Meanwhile Uddingston took a group of 16 promising youth players for a residential weekend
training camp at the Inverclyde National Sports Centre in Largs.

The camp, run in conjunction with South Lanarkshire Leisure and Hamilton Sports Council, gave the
youngsters the opportunity to receive high level coaching covering all aspects of the indoor and
outdoor game, including individual skills and team play, from Scotland hockey coaches Scott Taylor
and Paul Lochrin.

The players grasped the opportunity with both hands pleasing the Uddingston youth coaches - Ross
McWilliams, Ross Paterson and Jacqui McDove - who attended. Beth Coghlan and Shaun Murray
were voted the most promising players of the weekend. While the youngest player attending
Stephen Mackenzie also sharpened up on his shooting skills managing to score a goal in all three of
the games played over the weekend.

Ross McWilliams said: “The players were able to experience high level intense coaching to help
develop their hockey skills and help raise them to a higher level of play. We have a very talented
group of youngsters at the club and this kind of weekend will give them valuable experience as they
continue develop and in the coming years move up the ladder in our various senior teams at the

Club Training Camp

Uddingston 1st XI and selected members of the 2nd and 3rd XI attended their second training camp of the season following the success of the trip to Strathallan at the end of summer 2011.
The winter training camp saw the players brave the elements at Forthbank in Stirling with sessions on the Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.  Head coach Steven Percy put the players through their paces and was pleased with the dedication and effort shown.  The camp ended with a friendly match against Falkirk.

Weekend Training Camp

This weekend sees both our 1st team squad and 16 of our youth players taking part in two seperate residential training camps.

The 1st team squad made up of 16 senior players are at Forthbank Stadium from Friday to Sunday night prepairing for the new seaso season with our Club Coach Steven Percy taking them for what can only
be described at a "total hockey" weekend.

We are hoping this weekend will be used as a springboard for the second half of the a season as with the 1s sitting in third place and their first game back against Waverly on 11th February 12:15 at Holy Cross we will be pushing for promotion to Division one.

The youth players are at the Inverclyde National Training Centre From Saturday morning till Sunday night as part of a two sport weekend organised by Hamilton Sports Council with the other sport being Netball.

Uddingston got selected for this due to the amount of youth development we are currently doing in local schools and we do hope that all youth players come away from this weekend with both an enjoyable hockey and social experience.

It also gives three of our own coaches the chance to work with other high level coaches who are taking the weekend therefore we definetly see it as a great experience for all.

So should you be looking for something to do over the weekend feel free to pop along with a warm drink and dry tops as not exactly the best conditio
